Why is it important to make sure roof access doors or hatches close properly and can be locked?

Featured in:

Roofs often host important things – tanks, solar panels, wiring, sometimes even common clotheslines. If roof access doors or hatches don’t close properly or can’t be locked, they become weak points in the building’s security.

Unwanted visitors could use the roof as a quiet entry route, or kids might wander up unsupervised, which is risky near open edges and tanks. In some cases, animals can get in and cause damage.

A proper, lockable door or hatch also helps weather protection. If it doesn’t shut tight, rain can blow in, or strong winds can rattle it, slowly damaging hinges and frames.

Checking that these access points are solid, close well, and are controlled by the building management is a small detail that adds to both safety and security.
