Over the years, keys multiply quietly. You give one to a worker, one to a friend, one to a neighbour for emergencies, maybe keep one in a car or an old bag. People move, workers change, neighbours shift, and sometimes nobody remembers exactly who has what.
Taking time to list and physically gather all spare keys – and deciding which ones should remain active – cleans up this loose end. If someone no longer needs access, you politely collect that key. If you can’t remember who has a copy, it may be worth changing that lock, especially on main doors.
It’s not about mistrusting everyone, just about knowing who can walk in if they choose to. A clear key situation gives you better control over your own home.
