How can marking a “home check” day on the calendar each month keep small defects under control?

Featured in:

Homes age quietly. A tiny crack appears in one corner, a bit of damp shows near a window, a hinge loosens, a seal starts to peel. If you only notice these things when they become big, you end up with heavier repairs and more expense.

By choosing one day each month as a “home check” day, you turn maintenance into a simple ritual. On that day, you walk slowly through each room and intentionally look at ceilings, corners, around windows, under sinks, along skirting boards. You’re not fixing everything on the spot, just noticing and listing.

You might write down: “small crack in bedroom corner,” “tap slightly dripping,” “seal lifting near shower,” “paint bubbling near balcony door.” Some things you can fix yourself; others you plan for when you call a professional.

The point is to catch issues early while they’re still small. A few minutes of focused checking each month keeps your home from surprising you in unpleasant ways later.
